Entrepreneurship Alive and Well
Jake’s member Mandy Tran, is teaching her two young daughters a little bit about entrepreneurship. She ought to know something. She’s been an entrepreneur most of her life! Mandy is an intellectual property attorney and actually works with companies nationwide.
Last week, Mandy helped her daughters Kaolin Garrels (8 years old) and Casey (5 years old) set up an old-fashioned lemonade stand at the corner of Jake’s Cafe. In a matter of just hours, it was a resounding success, generating nearly $50 in sales. Pretty good!
When asked what their favorite thing about owning their own lemonade stand, Kaolin replied, “I like drinking lemonade and I’m really good at making it. I also like making money!”
Casey, Kaolin’s younger sister said, “I get to have lemonade and everyone else gets to have lemonade too. And also I get to have money for lemonade”
Well the lemon doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Their mother, Mandy makes lemonade out of lemons everyday. It’s part of looking at someone’s idea, researching it to see if the idea is patentable and protectable…and more importantly marketable! Mandy has helped with the successful launch of several start-ups at Jake’s Cafe and outside the cafe as well.
Mandy has been offering a series of intellectual property strategy clinics this summer. “It’s an opportunity for on-on-one confidential meeting to discuss a person’s ideas and it’s impact on potential business ventures,” says Mandy Tran. Future sessions are scheduled for July 21, August 4 and August 18th. Appointments can be made by contacting her directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Her daughters Kaolin and Casey are not only budding entrepreneurs, they’re also learning some good money management skills as well. “I’m going to put most of it in my savings account, said Kaolin, “And maybe save it for a car when I grow up. Mommy says I can keep $3 to spend on anything I like.” Casey isn’t quite as sure her future plans yet. “I’m going to put it in my piggy bank,” She smiled.
