Support Sheboygan’s Summer Concert Series
SHEBOYGAN-Campaign to bring back Levitt AMP summer concert series Kicks off Nov. 2 at John Michael Kohler Arts Center The John Michael Kohler Arts Center is again partnering with the City of Sheboygan and the Business Improvement District to rally votes for a $25,000 Levitt AMP grant to support a summer 2016 concert series.
A campaign kick-off party will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 2, at the Arts Center, 608 New York Ave., Sheboygan. Mayor Michael Vandersteen expressed support for the concerts. “The city is committed to creating a vibrant arts, culture, and dining district that benefits all of Sheboygan. Last summer’s concerts, produced by the Arts Center with the partnership of the city and BID, gave us great momentum on that initiative, and we definitely want to bring these free, outdoor concerts back for everyone next summer.”
In addition to featuring live music, coffee, and donuts, the kick-off event will offer visitors a chance to cast their vote for the Sheboygan concert series. If received, the $25,000 grant will help fund a free weekly music series, produced by the John Michael Kohler Arts Center on the site of the former Boston Store in downtown Sheboygan. The series will feature 10 events showcasing a variety of musical styles performed by nationally and internationally known headliners as well as local acts. Earlier this month, the Arts Center submitted a proposal for a Sheboygan music series to Levitt Pavilion, a nonprofit organization that seeks to strengthen community bonds by underwriting free Levitt AMP concerts across the United States. The Sheboygan proposal will compete to finish among the top 20 in an online voting contest. The winners will advance to the final round, when Levitt Pavilion will select 10 cities to receive the grant awards. Online voting runs Nov. 2–30 at grant.levittamp.org. -30-
